Wessex League CycloCross 2025/26

The Wessex Cyclo-Cross League

The Wessex Cyclo‑Cross League is run by clubs across the Wessex region and provides a full season of off‑road racing for riders of all ages and abilities. Events take place from early September through to late January, with races hosted by local cycling clubs throughout Hampshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, and Wiltshire. Each round contributes points toward the overall league standings for both individuals and clubs, with categories covering youth riders through to veterans.

Courses vary from venue to venue, offering a mix of grass, woodland, technical sections, and fast open racing. At the end of the season, league trophies and awards are presented across all age groups, recognising consistent performance throughout the series. Full details on events, results, rules, and how to enter can be found on the Wessex Cyclo‑Cross League website.

Newbury Velo is proudly affiliated with the Wessex Cyclo-Cross League, giving all club members the opportunity to take part in one of the most active and welcoming cyclo-cross series in the country. Because the club is fully affiliated, every Newbury Velo member is automatically eligible to race and contribute to the club’s overall points tally throughout the 2024/2025 league season. Whether you are an experienced off‑road rider or completely new to the discipline, taking part helps strengthen the club’s presence within the league and supports the wider cyclo-cross community.

As part of our involvement, Newbury Velo also hosts a round of the Wessex League at Kingsclere, a venue that offers a great mix of terrain and atmosphere for riders and spectators alike. Hosting an event is an important contribution to the league calendar and gives our members the chance to race on home turf while helping to showcase the sport to the local area.

The Wessex Cyclo-Cross League itself is known for being friendly, inclusive, and firmly rooted in grass‑roots cycle sport. Riders of all ages and abilities are encouraged to take part, and each race day typically features separate events for Under 12s, Under 16s, Senior Men, and a combined Junior/Veteran/Women category. This structure ensures that everyone—from young riders taking their first steps in racing to seasoned competitors—has a place on the start line.

If you’re new to cyclo-cross, the Wessex League website includes a helpful beginners’ guide that explains what to expect, what equipment you need, and how race days usually run. And if you joined us for the Summer CX Series, you already have a solid introduction to the skills and intensity of the sport—just imagine the same fast, fun racing with a bit more mud and winter weather added into the mix.
